Bee Conservationist and Jr Bee Conservationist Training and Certification

Both of these certification groups are offered to the general public who do not necessarily intend to personally work with honey bees but are interested in being involved in the general conservation effort for honey bees.

Who Is it for?

The Jr. Bee Conservationist group is targeted to youth from 7 years old (third grade) to about 13 years of age (sixth grade).

The Bee Conservationist group is for those in seventh grade or older.

Objectives

The objective of the Honey Bee Conservationist Certification is to provide a first line of defense for the honey bees in preventing needless killings of honey bees due to a lack of greater public education and to foster a greater concern for the care and survival of honey bees.

Both training groups are intended to introduce the student or volunteer to basic honey bee biology, identifying the castes of honey bees and information regarding health, social issues and benefits of honey bees.

Tasks

Specific tasks those completing the class will be able to demonstrate will be :

  • Identifying honey bees and distinguishing them from other insects.
  • Identifying the biological parts of a honey bee
  • Identifying the castes and components of the honey bee colony and hive.
  • Identifying defensive behavior in honey bees and exhibiting proper behavior and tactics in preventing

or avoiding aggressive behavior.

  • The proper information and knowledge of what to do and who to contact to assist in the relocation of

honey bees that are in a position to be harmed or possibly cause harm in a public area.

Time and Cost

The cost of offering a training session to a class or group is $75.00 for up to 30 students. Learning materials will be provided to the participants and “Honey Bee Conservationist” Certificates will be issued to those successfully completing the class.

Time to complete is approximately 45 minutes to one hour.

Summary

The certified Honey Bee Conservationist is able to make sure the honey bees in their area are provided the safety and assistance they need to survive until a certified BBE-Tech Honey Bee Conservation Technician or other experienced beekeeper can arrive to provide the appropriate measures to help them.
