Welcome
Hello future beekeeping license holder. Having a BBE-Tech: Honey Bee Conservation beekeeping license is a fun, creative and educational way to promote healthy beekeeping, to let others know you are a beekeeper and to actually get some perks from having one.
The presentation of the license is similar to an vehicle operators license with general knowledge and endorsements to show the tested abilities and knowledge of the license holder.
What it is
- It is a photo ID that is laminated and endorses the bearer as a recognized beekeeper who is knowledgeable in the general area of beekeeping and other specialties within the subject.
- It is a means to demonstrate that one has passed a series of written tests regarding general beekeeping knowledge and other areas related to beekeeping.
- It gives the bearer opportunities to receive support and perks from BBE-Tech: Honey Bee Conservation and the BBE-Tech: Bee Market such as discounts, access to swarms and cut outs, etc...
- The bearer is recognized and recognized as a 'delegate' that we at BBE-Tech: Honey Bee Conservation have confidence in referring to the public as educators and reliable persons to provide bee related services.
What it isn't
- It is not a universal certification that gives the holder authority or special status over any other beekeeper.
- It is not a pre-requisite accepted at large by beekeeping businesses in regard to employment.
- It is not an implication that the bearer has nothing more to learn in regard to beekeeping.
Details
Cost
There is a cost of $10.00 for the Beekeeping license from BBE-Tech: Honey Bee Conservation. It is good for one year (12 months) from the issue date and must be renewed annually to be considered in good standing. The tests are updated based on the Book "ABC and XYZ Of Beekeeping" as there can be significant updates and additional new information in each addition.
General Knowledge
Bearers will be tested on general beekeeping knowledge related to biology, behavior, diseases, pests and more. Passing all of these tests with a 90% or better enables the holder to obtain the beekeeping license.
Endorsements
Because there is enough variety in the various types of hives, the philosophies and methodologies as well as specific tasks such as breeding bees and raising queens, the candidates are able to take extra tests specific to those areas and have those specialties listed as extra "endorsements" on their beekeeping License.
Current Endorsements
Langstroth Hive Management(LHM)- The philosophies, management methods and techniques specific to successfully using Langstroth style hives.
Warre Hive Management(WHM)- The philosophies, management methods and techniques specific to successfully using Warre style hives.
Top Bar Hive Management(TBHM) - The philosophies, management methods and techniques specific to successfully using Horizontal Top Bar style hives.
Queen Breeding(QB) - The techniques and methods necessary for a variety of methods related to raising queens.
