Apiarist Certification Training

BBE-Tech Apiary Services is committed to helping beekeepers not only learn new information but have opportunities to demonstrate and consequently apply that knowledge and skills in a professional or semi-professional capacity.

The types of certification BBE-Tech is offering exists for the primary purpose of having a credential from a reliable trainer and issuing authority that the person holding said certification has demonstrated for the purpose of successful evaluation their knowledge and applied skills in the areas described.

This in no way means one is not or cannot be considered a beekeeper or a professional apiarist by not having a certification.  It can and does go a long way to showing a professional level of responsibility and reliability to clients and those we engage in business pursuits with.

Certified Apiarist

The most basic level of certification is that of “Apiarist”.  BBE-Tech uses the term “Apiarist to distinguish between those engaging in beekeeping as hobbyists, thus “Beekeepers” and those involved in beekeeping in a professional pursuit, thus “Apiarists.

A certified Apiarist with BBE-Tech Apiary Services has spent at least 12 months as an Apprentice with a recognized Apiarist by BBE-Tech Apiary Services or directly with BBE-Tech Apiary Services.

In order to qualify as a Certified Apiarist with BBE-Tech Apiary Services, certain requirements have been established that upon successful achievement or fulfillment, the Apprentice or candidate will then be Certified as an Apiarist.

The requirements are:

Pass written exams in the topics of

  • Basics or Intro To Beekeeping
  • Honey Bee Biology
  • Honey Bee Colony Organization
  • Apiary and Hive Management
  • Hive Assembly
  • Beekeeping IPM
  • Beeswax Rendering.

In addition to the written exams, candidates will be required to participate in a “Field Exam” to demonstrate applied skills.

Apiarist certifications are good for four years (48 months) at which time they expire or can be renewed by enrolling in an annual  “Certification Update Workshop” in which new information and updates to beekeeping methods, IPM, technologies and more, bringing the participants “up-to-date” on the state of beekeeping to that year.

Exam/Certification Fee:  $100.00 (Discounts available for Voluntary Apprentices to BBE-Tech Apiary Services and Bee Smart Patrons)

This is the “Big One” requiring the most exams and time involved.  However, we beelieve that it will be well worth the investment in your professional beekeeping endeavors.

Specialist Certifications

All Specialist level certifications involve advanced beekeeping knowledge and skills.  Each certification requires a written exam and a field exam to demonstrate knowledge and applied skills.

All Specialist certifications are good for four years (48 months) at which time they expire or can be renewed by enrolling in an additional, annual  “Special Update Workshop” in which new information and updates bring the participants “up-to-date” on the state of that specialty to that year.

The intention of certifying apiarists in the area of live bee removal is to help them to know best practices and methods to remove bee nests from structures, trees and ground locations in a way that minimizes unnecessary stress and improves the survival rate of relocated bees.  Other issues concentrated on are minimizing colony stress to prevent bees from becoming “hyper-defensive or going into a “stinging frenzy” possibly endangering people and animals in the surrounding work area.  All Specialist certifications are good for four years (48 months)

All Specialist certifications are good for four years (48 months)
